Embracing Mental Health

Bias and Beliefs

The American Psychological Association defines mental illness as a health condition involving changes in emotions, thinking and/or behavior. These changes manifest as distress in critical areas of life, such as school, work, family and/or social. Sometimes, it may not be clear whether or not the condition is new or asymptomatic for years and simply not diagnosed or misdiagnosed.

Our beliefs drive our thoughts and our thoughts drive our actions and behaviors. Our perceptions become our reality.  Therefore, if you believe that other human beings are inferior to you, simply based on the color of their skin and the texture of their hair, then your reality is distorted.  And no matter what you say or do, your behavior will reflect your thoughts and beliefs.  Your actions and inaction will define where you stand.

Racism and discrimination is not a black problem, Racism and discrimmination is an AMERICAN problem. It is a problem greater than healthcare, housing, education,  and our economy.  It is a greater problem, because it impacts all of America’s problems.

Until we come together to address bigotry and hate as a country, we will never be successful in resolving any of the issues blocking our greatness.  Until we can come together as a country, united, we will never be great! We have traveled across the globe to fight injustice, It is time to fight for justice at home.
